Descripción
Due to the globalization of the market and to the high level of current
competition, companies are always looking for technological innovations to obtain a
competitive differential in relation to their competitors. The automation of the
productive process emerges as one of the solutions to this demand. However,
automating a production process can have effects in other departments. Having said
that, it is fundamental to understand that the Maintenance department is directly
related to the production process, so it tends to be one of the main affected.
Thus, the main objective of this research is to analyze the impacts of automation in
the Maintenance Management of a company that underwent a transition from the
manual to the automated process in the last five years. To obtain this, a case study
was carried out, in which the main impacts caused by the automation in the
Maintenance process at that company are analyzed. It is possible to notice different
reasons that make the work of Maintenance managers difficult. Finally, the
monograph presents opportunities for improvement detected from this change, as
well as the actions taken by the company to improve the performance of the
Maintenance department related to them.
