In the last decades there has been an accelerated growth in the fleet of automobiles and motorcycles that have grown 10 times more than the number of inhabitants, bringing direct consequences to the urban mobility in the cities through the increase of the congestions in the main routes of circulation of the vehicles and emissions of pollutants. On the other hand, in the same period, little was done to qualify the collective transport, which lacks the adoption of policies to encourage its use. The result of all this is the crisis of the transport sector that loses passengers year after year and is about to go bankrupt. In Gravataí the scenario is no different. The municipality has accumulated passenger reductions for a decade and needs the implementation of projects that qualify the region's transportation system. With this in view, this work is about Bus Rapid Transit (BRT), Bus Rapid Service (BRS) and on demand public transit systems successfully deployed in other cities. Its main focus is to make a diagnosis of the public transport system of Gravataí and present proposals for improvements in the transportation network, in order to transform it into a more qualified service.
