Children with special needs require many care, especially support from family. The family caregiver of a child with special needs also need, therefore, care and guidance of professional staff in specialized institutions. This paper discusses the implications for the life of family caregivers as well as discuss the importance of interdisciplinary work and the group as an alternative to family support. The intervention of the psychologist through standby groups is an alternative social support for family members and a way to provide the team of professionals a comprehensive view of these children and their families, favoring the result of teamwork as a whole. Therefore, teamwork through an interdisciplinary perspective of these children and their families can be considered fundamental to the work to be effective.
