Project management on the national environment grows constantly and, increasingly, organisations realize the value of the discipline to guarantee success. Architectural offices, however, tend to focus only on the product delivery, while project processes stay in the background. The purpose of this study was to investigate, understand and develop information management procedures in the project processes of small architectural offices, referencing the consolidated knowledge in project management. In order to achieve these objectives, it was essential to have a theoretical framework that would provide the necessary basis for the development of the research work, also comprising documental research, observation and semi-structured interviews in four small architectural project companies in the regions of Serra Gaúcha and Vale dos Sinos. The analysis show that the knowledge of architecture professionals on project management is closely linked to speed, robustness, consistency and operational excellence in executing projects. The investigation of the research topic demonstrates the relevance and urgency of the proposal for improvements in information management in the process of architectural projects, and the development of strategies based on the project management culture.
