A disputa do probabilismo na América Colonial sec. XVI-XVIII

Abstract

It is a historical-epistemological study about the “Probabilism Dispute in Latin America between sec. XVI-XVIII”, especially in Peru. This work is part of the Scholastica Colonialis project, funded by Capes. In order to approach this theme, this research was divided into three parts. The first part deals with three central concepts of probabilism: conscience, opinion and law. The second part deals with probabilism and some of its objections (probabiliorism and tuciorism) in Europe. The third part of the study focuses on the probabilistic clash in Latin America. This part is divided into four chapters: first, the arrival and importance of probabilism in Latin America and especially in the Vice-reign of Peru; second, it presents a comparison between Iván Machado de Chaves and Diego de Avendaño; third, the dispute between probabilism and probabiliorism, present in the works "Antorcha Luminosa" and "Idea Sucinta del Probabilismo"; it concludes with the clash of probabilism in the VI Council of Lima, 1772.
