Industries with potential risks in their production processes generally retain the attention, focus and work of dedicated professionals in emergency prevention and control for their operational areas. As a result, the administrative areas considered as having low or medium potential risk receive the same treatment granted in previous years without the necessary perception of all the details and changes that the current legislation requires. These changes promoted a revision of Decrees, Laws, ABNT Rules and complementary documents resulted in the increase of minimum obligations for protection against fire in buildings. In this scenario, the situation of the existing and regularized buildings, object of study of this work was also studied and received a specific legislation in which the minimum requirements of fire safety, prevention and combat were established. The present work aims to present the necessary requirements for the development of a fire protection project, applied in the case study of an existing and regularized building, used for administrative activities and to analyze the current conditions of this building in front of the requirements foreseen in these documents. On-site visits were carried out and there were opportunities for improvement of some security items for legal assistance and positive points. It is also possible to perceive the responsibility and the contribution that qualified professionals have in the matter when advising owners in the development of a project and in the awareness of the importance that its efficiency has in the fulfillment of the legislation and mainly in the guarantee of the security of the people in the place.
