This article is focused on the prescription process in a Intensive Care Unit of a high complexity hospital in Porto Alegre. The overall objective of the study was to analyze the prescription process in an Intensive Care Unit. The specific objectives were; check if there are external factors that can interfere with this process and indicate the possibility of improvements. The theoretical framework was developed based on Processes, Management by Processes and Quality in ICU. The methodology for the study of development was qualitative case study and descriptive conducted in a Intensive Care Unit of a high complexity hospital in Porto Alegre. As a result of this study it can be seen that the prescription process in the analyzed site is likely errors due to interruptions and interface environment. There are possibilities for improvements in this process that could improve the quality of care provided.
