When I began teaching at school in 2010, some ideas and negatives views from the teachers about the OBMEP caused me some discomfort and some doubts. Checking the last five-year results on the Olympics site, there were several students and a few teachers who were awarded in nearby schools. Therefore, this study aims to analyse how the OBMEP top teachers, especially in the Vale dos Sinos area, in Rio Grande do Sul, and some neighboring cities, work in preparing their students for this competition and if their practices are innovative. For these teachers, it was sent an electronic questionnaire in orden to collect information about the actions taken by them. The study found that teachers are professionals who have a good academic background and continuing education learning to improve the quality of their work, contemplating their classes with several innovations, and have knowledge about the OBMEP goals and troubleshooting methodology.
