The dissemination of the experience and knowledge acquired amongst professionals involved in occupational safety will always be important in the development of projects and implementation of protective equipment against machinery’s accidents. In the latest revision of NR-12, there was an increase in the number of items to be added or modified on the machines to improve control and safety for workers; however, the difficulties on the interpretation and application could generate complex and unproductive solutions. The purpose of this study is to analyze the productive concepts and technical definitions on the perimeter security for machinery and equipment installed in the industry such as an effective element for accident protection and for the reduction of vulnerabilities. The studied examples and proposed solutions are within the steel industry, but may be valuable for other industries that uses heavy machinery and large equipment.
