The research was based on a qualitative approach, with methodological design case study. For production data, were used: document analysis to know how the proposed PROEJA articulates/connects with local development; semi-open questionnaire of exploratory nature; semi-structured interviews with eight former students and a maitre d' at a restaurant. The main concepts used were: the concept of education postulating an emancipatory perspective and the development, different from mere economic growth, which prioritize effectively the living conditions of the people. Main theorists who paved the way of this study were: Manfredi (2002); Frigotto (1995, 2004, 2005a, 2005b); Ciavatta (2005, 2008, 2010); Kuenzer (1998, 2009); Ramos (2005, 2007, 2010); Adams (2010); Freire (2000, 2001a, 2001b, 2011a, 2011b); Pinto (2010); Sachs (2007, 2008); Furtado (2000, 2002, 2004); Dowbor (2006). Among the main results are: the rescue of self-esteem; improved relations in the family, in society and at work; the expansion of worldview; awareness of incompleteness; the understanding and use of good manufacturing practices; insertion into the market the work of the majority of graduates, not an emancipation perspective, as you want in the design of integral education, but along the lines of the capitalist system.IFPI - Instituto Federal de Educação Ciência e Tecnologia do Piauí
