Description
Water, as a hydrous resource, has caused an increasing concern about its protection and sustainable use. There has been an emphasis on surface water, which is the most used, while groundwater has been used during drought periods. This work has focused on groundwater, by assessing the sedimentary reservoir known as Guarani Aquifer System, specifically in an area situated within the limits of Ivoti and Estancia Velha, in Porto Alegre Metropolitan Region, Rio Grande do Sul. This area has been chosen because it is exclusively supplied by groundwater, which is extracted from impoundments called tubular wells belonging to “Companhia Riograndense de Saneamento” (CORSAN), besides a great number of other impoundments used by factories, households, schools, hospitals, etc, thus composing a scene that is likely to cause conflicts due to shared use of groundwater.
