The Chapel of Nossa Senhora da Conceição, popularly Known as Capela da Jaqueira, is a
construction from the colonial period, built in the second half of the 18th century, on a site on
the banks of the Capibaribe River, in Recife – PE. The present work aims to identify the
historical elements in the Chapel, regarding its construction, highlighting its baroque
architecture, its rare tiles, its works of art and the personalities related to it, who were
prominent in local politics. These elements motivated its recognition as Cultural Heritage.
The qualitative methodology of this research included field visits, photographic and
documentary records present at FUNDAJ, IAHGP and IPHAN, for a content analysis. The
product of this work results in a digital catalog, intended for chapel goers, visitors and
researches.
