This work details the paths of the traveler Louis Léger Vauthier between 1840 and 1846 in Pernambuco in the first half of the 19th century, which over six years recorded his daily life. We emphasize that this visit to the Province of Pernambuco was made possible due to a pre-established contract with Governor Francisco Rêgo Barros, with the aim of carrying out works. However, when we stick to the diary that he wrote, we find that many times in the reports related severe criticism in relation to the country that welcomed him and the people he had lived with, which often had an air of superiority. However, even so, establishing ties and because of this social network, assumed the Public Works Department. And the front of this body developed some projects and executed works, in which evidences both in this report and in the booklet, showing the paths between Recife and Olinda. In this booklet, we seek to highlight tourist points with reference to places that were directly linked to their professional practice, in the works they carried out or simply that served as passageways or visiting points. In this way, we seek to offer the visitor a little of the history and beauty of these two cities, with the main contribution being the intimate diary of Louis Léger Vauthier.
