dc.description.abstract | Democracy, as a political regime, requires an adaptation to the new social demands, considering
the advantages and risks inherent to the development of new technologies. The advent of the
network society made it possible, in the electoral field, that digital campaigns have a greater
range in content distribution and the use of artificial intelligence for the implementation of
strategies, but it also brought fake news, invasions of computer systems, information control
through algorithms of big corporations, which could figure as a real threat to democracy.
Therefore, this research intends to answer the following problem: are the Brazilian norms that
regulate the new technologies used in electoral advertising, mainly those related to the use of
artificial intelligence in social networks, sufficient to safeguard the integrity of democracy? The
hypothesis is that the lack of legal regulation for the use of artificial intelligence in the electoral
field is harmful to Brazilian democracy. Thus, this work aims to analyze the use of artificial
intelligence in electoral propaganda and its impacts on Brazilian democracy. The methodology
was based on a bibliographical research, with a qualitative approach and a hypotheticaldeductive
method. We conclude that, despite some advances, Brazilian democracy has been
weakened, especially due to the use of fake news on social networks, and that is necessary an
effective regulation to protect our political system from the inadequate use of the new
technologies. | eng |
