In treatment programs for alcohol dependence, the participation of the family is considered essential in the recovery process. Literature shows the women of the family (mothers, wives, sisters) as the most participatory people in this process. However, research on the effects of dependence on family life and family are still scarce in Brazil. To scientifically move in this direction, this study prioritized the figure of the wife, even today, stands out as one of the main responsible for the care of the alcoholic. The objective was to investigate the perception of the wife about the support received from family, correlating it to the symptoms of anxiety and depression for her perceived. We chose to present the thesis through the modality articles, the first review and the empirical second. The aim of the first was to analyze the studies that address the psychological repercussions experienced by wives of alcoholics. The second aimed to correlate the perception of family support to anxiety and depression perceived by these women. The sample consisted of convenience with 60 wives of alcoholics who frequented groups for alcohol and drug dependent family in Maceió-AL . It was applied the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HAD), the Inventory of Family Support Perception (IPSF) and sociodemographic questionnaire with thirteen closed questions. In the first article, the analysis of studies revealed that many wives subjected to suffering and emotional distress often show signs of anxiety and depression. Most often, they are inserted in a context of physical violence and marital infidelity by the husband, which adds to this panorama arrest for her part in getting some kind of STD. The result of the empirical study revealed that 55% of participants had anxiety and 43.3% depression. Correlation analysis has shown that there was a significant negative correlation of family support perception with both anxiety (r = -0.51; p = 0.000), as with depression (r = -0.57, p = 0.000 ). These data corroborate other research in the area that postulate that the greater anxiety and depression, lower the perception of family support. By prioritizing the study focused on the wife of alcoholics and seek to collect data on their psychological well-being, this study drew a point panorama that can contribute to the development of public policies directed to this target audience, especially aimed at structuring a networks service for families of alcoholics.eng
