The Internet of Things (IoT) is a technology that has overgrown and whose interest lies in the connection of diverse kinds of devices to collect and exchange data. Since most IoT devices are mobile, the hardware resources are hard-limited. Thus, complexity reduction becomes a relevant concern in this context. Bluetooth low energy (BLE) communication standard has an essential position in IoT due to its Gaussian frequency shift keying (GFSK) modulation scheme employed in the physical layer, which provides both attractive spectral and power efficiency. However, due to the nonlinear nature of GFSK signaling, the complexity of the GFSK detectors is high. In this doctoral dissertation, two novel low-complexity GFSK detectors are proposed: the first detector presented obtains an estimation of the transmitted symbols from a linear data model based on oversampling the GFSK signal and, because of its linearity, has a low-complexity implementation. The second proposal is based on a new paradigm that transforms the I-Q baseband signal and uses the Viterbi algorithm with a reduced-complexity proposed metrics. Theoretical and simulated results show a performance close to the near-optimal Viterbi receiver in the additive white Gaussian noise (AWGN) channel model. The proposed detectors are an attractive scheme for IoT BLE devices since the Bluetooth standard is complied.es_MX
