Description
In order to find some alternatives for the reuse of plastic waste and to improve the mechanical behavior of the pavements, this job investigated the effects of the addition of plastic waste in the Asphalt Concrete (AC). Laboratory tests were performed to characterize the aggregates used in the mixtures and through of the Marshall mix design method selected the optimum asphalt binder content, than made two types of the asphalt mixtures (conventional and with addition of plastic waste), carry out physical tests (Void Volume and Specific Gravities) and mechanical tests (Stability, Fluency and Tensile Strength) with the intention of comparing the results. From a reference sample, conceived modified asphalt mixtures with plastic waste were made at the dry process, with the proportions of 0,5%, 1,0%, 1,5%, 2,0% and 2,5 % in relation of the mixture weight. A positive contribution was observed in the asphalt mixture mechanical behavior with the residues added and the complete compliance with the normative parameters.
