Estagiárias em jornalismo no Rio Grande do Sul: mundo do trabalho, interseccionalidade e neoliberalismo

The aim of this thesis is to investigate the impact of the world of work in a neoliberal context for the professional growth strategies of female journalism graduates. To this end, we rely on the intersectional perspective to understand the developments of the social markers of difference that cross the reality of the collaborators-participants of this research, which are five female interns of Journalism in the state of Rio Grande do Sul, with distinctions of race (white and black), class (make up the class-live-of-work), location (Porto Alegre and metropolitan region) and sexuality (heterosexual, bisexual and homosexual). From the articulations between theory and experiences of five months of interviews, with the activation of the ethnographic method (TRAVANCAS, 2012; STRATHERN, 2017), we infer that: 1) internship is also a matter of class for survival issues, even if the literature of the field dwells too much on the unilateral perspective of experimentation (VALVERDE, 2006; CAMPOS; ROCHA, 2011; PEREIRA, 2015; PEREIRA et al, 2015; 2016; ZACARIOTTI; SOUZA, 2019); 2) it is compulsory to adhere to professional growth strategies based on neoliberalism, yet there are actions grounded in common and collective good that find harmony in the praxis of the collaborator-participants; 3) the strategies of elaboration of authority over skills go hand in hand with actions of gender compensation, thus sexist events are hidden in their narratives and only the reading of professional failure or success from an individual perspective are prone to emerge; 4) in contrast, racist prejudices within the university and the workplace are more easily identified through the prism of race and not intersectionality. In view of these points, we identified that the studies on journalism internships contain gaps to be unraveled with the participation of students to share their memories about how, when, and where their perceptions and decisions about the future of the profession occur.CAPES - Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior
