dc.description.abstract | Objective: To address the importance of oral supplementation on nutritional therapy in the clinical management of hospital patients critical. Methods: Literature review on the topic, being selected material online scientific databases, covering the period 1998 to 2010, using key word: malnutrition, oral supplementation, nutritional therapy, chronic diseases. Summary of the findings: From literature data in can be seen that nutritional therapy reduces complications in the patient’s health status. According to recent data, about 60% of patients already have the framework of malnutrition when they reach the hospital. The challenge the team in this context is to reverse the four, and most importantly, to prepare individuals who will undergo surgical procedures to ensure their recovery. Current studies show that adequate nutritional support accelerates recovery and reduces hospital stay, improving the quality of life of patients. Conclusion: Nutritional therapy is essential for proper clinical treatment and recovery of the critically ill patient. It is essential to improve longevity, postoperative recovery, healing, immunization and quality of life.
