dc.description.abstract | Obesity is a common problem which requires a long-term therapy. We reviewed studies that investigated the effectiveness of methods for weight loss maintenance after intentional weight loss. The databases accessed were Pubmed and Bireme. The initial weight loss ranged from 5 to 10 percent in approximately 50 percent of the studies analyzed. After the weight loss, strategies have been applied to analyze the maintenance of the lost weight. The intervention time ranged from 2 months to 3 years. In all studies analyzed, there was regained weight, regardless of the method used. However, some studies showed less regained weight, especially when it was associated with exercise, compared to other strategies. Thus, none of the strategies were effective in preventing the regained weight. For patients who need to lose weight, it is indispensable long-term monitoring so they can maintain a cognitive control and with it the emaciated weight. | en |
