dc.description.abstractOver the last years, the educational training practice of nursing staff has been discussed, expanding the debate about the use of active methods in health education. The main objective of this search is to develop a matrix of competences for the development of active methods for training technicians in Nursing. This is a qualitative, descriptive and exploratory research. The study site was a Nursing Technical school situated in a city of Vale do Caí (RS). Data collection occurred in April of 2016. The participants were ten teachers and ten students from this school. For data collection it was used three focal groups with triggers elements. Data analysis followed the thematic analysis technique. The study complied with the principles of Resolution 466/12 of the National Health Council. The results indicate the need to invest in teacher training for the use of active methodologies in health professional education with a focus on the quality of nursing technical education. It is estimated that the development of the matrix competences will help to assist teachers in their educational practice as well as benefit students in their learning.pt_BR
