The study guides reflections about social inequalities on the mirror of racism, with the reference author Jessé Souza. It retakes, at the beginning, reflections about the distinction between difference and inequality and make a critique of economist reductionism, as well as different facets of the discussion on inequalities, that is, how they manifest themselves in society, and about concepts of equality and their interrelationships, looking for synonymous concepts with equality. In the following chapter, the study investigates the concepts of color / race and their historical evolution, but also seeks to distinguish the notions of racism and racial prejudice, in addition to search the novelty or not of the concept of ethnicity. In the central part, it addresses the author's concept of racism, namely, cultural racism, as a functional continuity of scientific racism. Then, it analyzes the main author's criticisms of a certain interpretation by some Brazilian intellectuals about Brazil understanding and the slave-origin of racism. Finally, it locates cultural racism within the scope of capitalism and its meritocratic ideology, and how the last concept can reinforce the idea of the superiority of some groups over others.en
