dc.description.abstract | This dissertation aimed to analyze to what extent the Information Technology management of the Federal Institute of Education, Sciences and Technology of Sul-rio-grandense participates in the strategic management of the institution. It is a public Federal Institution of Education, located in the State of Rio Grande do Sul and consisting of a Rectory and 14 campi. For this, as far as the method is concerned, a case study was chosen, with a qualitative approach, using, as techniques for data collection, semi-structured interviews and documentary research. The interviews were used in order to know the point of view of the people involved in the various processes related to the institution's management. The data collected were interpreted through the technique of content analysis, due to the capacity of interpretation and inference of content that this method allows. As a result, a detailed diagnosis of the current role played by the institution's IT area was obtained, which demonstrates its focus on the tactical and operational levels. It was also possible to identify factors that hinder their effective participation in institutional strategic management, such as the limitation on the part of managers to understand what would be a strategic action of the IT area and the dubiousness about the responsibility for decision making regarding investments and prioritization of projects, which leads to decisions that are not always transparent and democratic. Finally, based on the results obtained, a set of recommendations is presented that aim to promote a greater role for IT in institutional strategic management. | en |
