dc.description.abstract | The main topic of the actual research is succession of principals in the nonpublic basic education, presenting a case study proceeded in the eighteen private schools of Marist Network. As a general goal it has been set analyzing the already existing process of principal's succession, which is currently adopted by the Marist Network. Such analysis focus specifically on the principal's position, suggesting strategies for qualifying and increasing the professionalism of such succession. As specific goals, it has been sought: To analyze and comprehend the profile as well as the required skills for the principals within the organization; To recognize the necessities of Marists' schools related to the process of identifying, retaining and developing the leadership, taking into account the principal's role; To propose strategies for the succession of the principal position in a marist school. In order to achieve the research aimed results, some relevant concepts have been studied suchlike education, education and school management, leadership and the school principal together with the succession process comprehension. The present research is a qualitative one, counting on collect data procedures as document analysis of organizational records, interviews carried out with the Marist Network's executives and also surveys applied to the schools principals. By applying the content analysis method it was possible to establish there is no specific standard profile for becoming a school principal because there are many different variables that permeate the school community. Despite not having a principal standard profile, there is a competence map for all positions including the principal one. Regarded to the succession process, evidences point to the requirement of making the actual practises more systematic and bringing it into the light of an official and formal procedure. The planning of succesion is considered the most important issue to be approached in the process at this time. It has been formulated a map of strategies for succession, as a proposal intervention. The map was based on the systematization of the existing practices allied to some actions raised by this research. It has been observed, as a result, that Marist Network should look for a procedural and formative model of succession, which keeps on rebuilding and unfolding as the professional advances. That model can be adjusted along the professional journey of each person. | en |
