A dinâmica das fusões e aquisições no mercado brasileiro de planos de saúde

Abstract

Health insurance company play an important role in the health market. The present study analyzed the dynamics of mergers and acquisitions in the market of national health insurance company, between 2001 and 2017, from the point of view of the cellular automaton method, in order to identify the behavior of the companies and the reasons for the increase in the number of mergers in this market, and the consequent decrease in the number of companies. The study considered a sample of 64 operators with medical-hospital characteristics involved in 49 mergers. The cellular automaton method was the methodology chosen to understand the behavior of the operators, taking into account their geographical locations and billing. Among the main results, it was found that the difference in billing between companies is a quantity inversely proportional to the probability of merging between them. The geographical location also presented proportions inversely proportional to the probability of union between the operators. The market has shown a constant reduction in the number of active operators. In addition, simulations revealed the market trend of increased mergers over the coming periods.
