Fractures in the elderly can result in serious consequences, especially those arising in the regions of femur and hip, which can affect the movements of the patient and even lead to death. These are daily observations from people who work in hospitalization areas, and were the starting point for the development of this study. The study aims to carry out a general survey of postoperative complications in elderly patients who suffered falls to the ground, resulting in femur and hip fractures, in a trauma unit from a private hospital in the city of Porto Alegre / RS. A survey instrument was developed to collect data, allowing the realization of descriptive analyzes from the variables, with a cross-sectional and quantitative approach. The total sample of respondents included 20 patients, whose responses were collected over a period of 3 months. The data analysis allowed to verify that the patients with more postoperative complications were those who had more associate comorbidities. Understanding the profile of this patient and how the fall happens helped to direct the information that will be important to prevent recurrence of falls at home or institution where they live.
