This study deals with a literature review is exploratory and descriptive qualitative approach, it aims to describe and develop a literature review on the use of the Braden Scale in patients admitted to intensive care units. The methodological design for this study was the literature search. This retrospective survey of the years 2000 to 2010 publications, considering the criteria: date, journal title and type of research. Aimed to identify and analyze the profile of scientific publications in nursing related to the use of the Braden Scale in patients admitted to intensive care units. According to the research in the database of BIREME, at first found 356 articles dealing with the theme of this research, however, after the inclusion criteria are applied to the material, the study was reduced to 26 works. As the results showed that the association between the presence of pressure ulcers as a result of hospitalization was strongly negative in the last decade highlighted, and the development of these has been presented as an indicator of quality of care provided by staff. Moreover, its treatment and rehabilitation require a high cost for both the institution and to patients and their families, and preventing the greatest resource available. Thus, according to the articles analyzed, the choice of the Braden Scale is based on the best operational implementation, monitoring at admission and hospitalization, nursing uniform evaluation and control of results, as shown by the work.
