The management of these risks is discussed in the present study based on multiple cases, where are analyzed six companies that have products and services of more complexity and are originating of Brazilian South. As result of present research was understood that the SMEs of emergent countries not have direct methodologies in the risk management and rely on experience of his managers, but were also detected good practices of mitigation as: not do large investments, employ a higher quality standard in these markets, grow gradually in distribution, get to know the market well and participate intensely in events in the developed country. There were also gaps in the literature, as well as deficiencies in the management of firms in the identification and action on partnerships and communication risks.
