China is a country which has been drawing the worldwide attention and curiosity by itself. It is a beautiful country, with a millennial culture, with a giant territory and an enormous population. It has been a great partnership of Brazilian international business, supplying high quality products and with competitive prices to Brazil and to the rest of the world. Such condition drew the author’s attention to verify the feasibility under the cost point of view to import electrical and non-electrical manual tools to be resold to the retailers “hardware and building materials stores” set in the state of Rio Grande do Sul, mainly in Porto Alegre’s metropolitan region. For that reason, the author has fictitiously created the wholesaler “Ômega Importadora e Comércio de Ferramentas Limitada”. The company has been created to import and resell these merchandises to retail sector. Firstly, the goods to be imported have been chosen. Secondly, a market prospection has been performed and also the products’ prices requests along with the Chinese importers. Afterwards, there have been some imports costs evaluations aiming to verify the cost of each imported product (nationalized) by the wholesale company Ômega. Then, there were prices researches with five retail companies in order to learn how much they pay for these products to the wholesale companies which work in the market of the Metropolitan region. And finally, prices comparisons of imported goods (nationalized) have been performed versus the prices of same goods resold to retail sector. After all these steps have been finalized, it was concluded that the import of these tools is viable under the cost point of view, pointing out the limitations of this study. After the feasibility conclusion under the cost point of view it is presented to the reader, which documents involved in an international purchase operation (imports) and the main procedures to the import operation. The main goal of this work was verifying the viability under the cost point of view, for that a qualitative survey has been performed through a field research. In order to obtain the quotations with the foreign suppliers, documental surveys have been performed. In order to know the goods prices practiced by the wholesalers, depth interviews have been performed with the five retailers. For the elaboration of import costs evaluations, it was made a survey through direct observation. For the information of involved documents, as well as to inform the main procedures for the operation, bibliographic surveys have been made.en
