With the evolution of technology and the constant investments made by industries in automation, seeking production efficiency, a gap is formed between the ERP systems and the machines located on the factory floor. From the 2000 onwards the MES systems are gaining space in an attempt to fill this gap. The objective of this paper is to introduce the concepts involved in developing a MES system and analyze the benefits gained by it. Based on the history of implementation and the results, the case study presented several improvements perceived by the company as well as demonstrated a differentiated approach to reporting and indicators generated by the system.
