dc.description.abstract | The following doctoral thesis analyses the events coverage occurred during the building process of the Belo Monte dam - which is located at the heart of the Brazilian Amazon, at the Altamira city, in the state of Pará – made by a radio network compromised with environmental causes, the Rede de Notícias da Amazônia (RNA), during the period between 2008 until 2013. The media play a primordial character in the mediation of senses on the process of social building of environmental problems. In Amazon the radio is fundamental, particularly in what is about the events coverage at Belo Monte that, via the Jornal da Amazônia e Notícia (JAN), gets closer to an environmental journalism model. Through visits, observations, interviews, quantitative data, qualitative analysis of the news produced by JAN and played by RNA, which are referent to the hydroelectric station building, it is possible to put together a methodological, critic and epistemologically approach supported by a conception of science that recognizes its active importance in the knowledge production. Even that the environmental journalism at Brazil needs some maturation in the calculation and distribution of information, the coverage of the Rede de Notícias da Amazônia shows to be of a fundamental importance and highlights its social function of denounce and debate the problem Belo Monte. | en |
