dc.description.abstract | The present work of research undertakes a study on the behavior and familiar practices of the slaves of the Border West of the Rio Grande between ends of century XVIII and principles of the XIX. To verify the questions, a set of information proceeding from a varied number of sources like registers of baptisms, marriages and deaths, passing for the inventories post-mortem and manumissions. The main stimulation is the agreement of the functioning of the slaved work in this region that delimited with the Castilian area, whose economy was characterized for the predominance of the cattle. Initially, tries to map the history of the region since the arrival of the first European settlers until the Farroupilha Revolution, analyze the productive activities, the size area of the slaves and the evolution of the slaved population, observing the demographic profile of this segment in the analyzed period.
