dc.description.abstract | In this thesis, we analyzed regional factors that, in the province of Mato Grosso, contributed to the outcome of the War in Paraguay. The border, a concept which subsidized this study, was addressed in terms of territory and designed as an expression of the dynamics that the occupation by different societies exert to a territory. Through that concept, we tried to understand the increasing supremacy of the border line, to the detriment of border-zone, in the area bathed by the River Paraguay. Official and private sources, primarily deposited in the archives of Mato Grosso and Asuncion (Paraguay) made up the consulted documentation. From this one, we highlight the presidential reports, the census, military correspondence, the reports of travelers and newspapers published in Paraguay and Mato Grosso.
