This dissertation has as main subject the education for the work and in it. It investigates the school and no-school processes of toolmaker formation. Accomplished in the environment of the factory and of the school, the research, deals with the relationship among the models of production management and the undertaken processes to the professional’s formation, comprehending the relation between the factory and the school as mutual dependence. This is a qualitative research and its method was the case study based in semi structured interviews and document analysis. The theory that sustains the research is in the field of education and work and some of its referential are in the studies of authors as Eloísa Helena Santos, Acácia Eneida Kuenzer e Ricardo Antunes. The school is not the only instance of the worker formation, nor the formation process that begins in the school ends in it.
