This thesis, based on a feminist approach, questions the category of citizenship traditionally defined from androcentrism. We make use of the concept of Unconventional Citizenship that is exercised by the generally forgotten, excluded and marginalized populations of society, particularly women living on the streets of the center of the city of Santiago de Cali. Using an exploratory and comprehensive methodology, we place the voice of women street dwellers as the protagonist. The study, when characterizing the exercise of Non-Conventional Citizenship, takes as a reference the experiences of street dwelling women in the occupation of public space. This type of exercise conflicts with the parameters established by the patriarchal system. The socioeconomic status of the participating women is illustrated. Also, the roads built by women street dwellers to exercise Non-Conventional Citizenship are identified. The tensions that women who inhabit the street live between the roads built to exercise Non-Conventional Citizenship and the use of public space are evident. The research concludes that the exercise of Unconventional Citizenship exercised by women living on the streets is outside the common standards. This allows to locate an acknowledgment of their daily actions, in which they have learned strategies to remain and resist in their context. In addition, the need for the State to include those who exercise Non-Conventional Citizenship in its interventions is evidente.
