This study sought to demonstrate how internal communication practices can contribute to the management of teams in municipal public higher education institutions in the State of Goiás. The objectives of the study were: To identify the internal communication practices of the HEIs; understand the changes that have occurred in the internal communication of the HEIs; analyze the most effective internal communication practices in the management of the HEIs teams; propose actions for improving internal communication. To this end, a qualitative exploratory research was carried out, operationalized through an online interview using the Microsoft Teams tool, under a semi-structured approach with managers of the Institutions. For data analysis, the content analysis technique was used. The results show that the COVID-19 pandemic highlighted the importance of internal communication for employee engagement, increased productivity, and promotion of a positive organizational environment, being indispensable for effective team management. Because internal communication in the organizational environment involves interactions between members of the organization, using technology or not, with the objectives of listening, informing, mobilizing, educating, and maintaining internal harmony, all involving information, ideas, emotions, and peer opinion. Educational institutions, such as those in the State of Goiás, faced unprecedented challenges, such as the rapid transition to distance learning. It is concluded that clear and timely communication channels and means have proven essential to ensure academic and administrative continuity. The research also identified barriers to efficient communication, such as diversity of channels, failures in information dissemination, and absence of clear strategies. Finally, directions were presented, including the implementation of an internal communication system, adoption of technologies such as intranet, creation of a specialized department, employee training, and the institution of clear communication policies, accompanied by feedback systems and constant review. Such research results denote the importance of efficient internal communication for efficient people management.en
