dc.description.abstract | Access to health care is a fundamental right for Brazilians, with more than 70% of the population relying exclusively on the Unified Health System (SUS) for medical care. The growing ageing of the population and the increase in chronic diseases intensifies the need for specialized care, while the worsening effects of the pandemic exacerbate inequalities and social vulnerability. Hospitals, which are the main providers of health services under the SUS, are facing an overload due to the growing demand and the financial imbalance aggravated by the gap in the SUS table that pays these hospitals. To deal with these challenges, public and philanthropic institutions are looking for innovations as a means of survival, adopting cost-competition strategies. The incorporation of technologies and collaboration with the innovation ecosystem are emerging as ways to drive this change. The growing expansion of innovation in health, especially in hospital environments, is a response to the challenges of public health and the need to balance finances. Managing this progress requires a robust innovation management system that supports innovation processes and corporate strategies. As a result, this study proposes an innovation management model for SUS-oriented hospital environments. This proposal is derived from a comparative analysis of the models available in the literature and the empirical findings of a case study carried out at Santa Casa de Misericórdia in POA. The proposed model aims to improve efficiency, reduce barriers and foster good innovation practices. In this way, it seeks to promote a more appropriate approach to the SUS hospital environment, aiming for financial sustainability and effectiveness in the context of public health. | en |
