Características de universitários que não consultam com o médico na Região Centro-Oeste: estudo transversal

Objective: Verify the characteristics of university students who do not consult with the doctor in the Midwest region. Methods: Cross-sectional study including students, aged 18 years or older, enrolled in health courses at the University of Rio Verde, conducted in the municipalities of Rio Verde, Aparecida de Goiânia and Goianésia located in Goiás. Data were collected through self-administered questionnaires applied to university students enrolled in health courses (Nursing, Dentistry, Medicine, Physiotherapy, Pharmacy and Physical Education) during the periods of classes. The dependent variable was the non-use of health services in the last twelve months. Demographic, socioeconomic, student, life habits, some morbidities and self-perceived health variables were included in the analysis, after entering university were analyzed. The adjusted analysis was performed using Poisson Regression. Results: Among 2294 participants, 577 (25.1%; CI95% 23.4 to 26.9) had not consulted with a doctor. Some characteristics such as higher economic class, female gender, medical school, being at the beginning of courses and some morbidities such as the presence of asthma/bronchitis, heart disease, high cholesterol, sexually transmitted infection, depression and anxiety were associated with increased use of medical consultations. Conclusions: The study pointed out low use of medical consultations, differences between the provision of health services, high prevalence of high cholesterol and mental distress and can serve as a basis for the creation of health support and promotion services for university students.Nenhuma
