Doçura e morte: o Engenho do Miriri – Paraíba (1951-1997).

Abstract

This work aims to produce a documentary based on the Engenho do Miriri as a place of contribution to the history of the formation of Paraíba comprising the period 1951-1997. The historiographical analysis occurred through works published in Brazilian universities and books, which involved themes such as the work of slaves, the sugar ways and the construction of the Engenho do Miriri, such as the works of José Israel da Costa (1623), and the reports of Adrian van der Dussen (1639) and Elias Herckmans (1639). The methodology used was based on the gathering of several historiographic works that address fronts about the construction of the engenho, and thus we identified the threads that point to the place of its development and sugar production, starting from the works of Guilherme Gomes da Silveira d'Avila Lins (2019), José Antônio Gonçalves de Mello (2004), Evaldo Cabral de Mello (2012), Josué de Castro (1969). The theoretical part was developed within what Diehl (2004), points out to be historical thinking based on three perspectives of interest: the content of experiences, the content of norms, and the content of senses. In the documentary we used Oral History as methodology in Thompson (1992) and the concepts of Memory by Halbwachs (2004) and Ricoeur (2007), to present the Miriri Mill as a research space for the Human Sciences, which has 28 min and 46 seconds.
