dc.description	Writing is one of the first challenges students meet at the beginning of their career, and also one of the first frustrations. Teachers complain about students writing badly, but do not know how to help them; the students themselves are surprised at their mistakes, which often prevent their meeting the demands of their courses. On account of this, universities are increasingly integrating drafting as a part of the curriculum, not only to repair former omissions, but also to teach how to think and to promote reading, research and the development of individual thought. In Latin America, Professor Hilda Quintana was one of the pioneers in this teaching field of writing at University level, as well as the first person to create a Writing Center in order to support students and teachers in their creation of better academic works. Ms Quintana, who has a PhD in Compared Literature, holds the Chair for Spanish Language at the Interamerican University at Puerto Rico, where she also directs both the Multidisciplinary Center of Writing and the HQ of the UNESCO Chair for the Improvement of Reading and Writing. Ms Quintana came to the Catholic University of Uruguay to give a course on Centers of Writing and Writing at University level for teachers at the Faculty of Human Sciences. dc.description	Escribir en la universidad es uno de los primeros desafíos con los que se encuentran los estudiantes al comenzar su carrera, y también una de sus primeras frustraciones. Los profesores se quejan de lo mal que escriben, pero no saben cómo ayudarlos, y ellos se sorprenden de sus errores, que muchas veces les impiden cumplir las exigencias de los cursos. Por eso cada vez más las universidades están incorporando la redacción como parte del currículo, no solo para remediar lo que no se hizo antes, sino para enseñar a pensar, fomentar la lectura, la investigación y el desarrollo de ideas propias. En Latinoamérica, la profesora Hilda Quintana fue una de las pioneras en la enseñanza de la redacción universitaria, y también la primera en crear un centro de escritura con el fin de acompañar a estudiantes y docentes en la mejora de los trabajos académicos. Doctora en Literatura Comparada, Quintana es catedrática de Español en la Universidad Interamericana de Puerto Rico, donde también dirige el Centro de Redacción Multidisciplinario y la sede de la Cátedra UNESCO para el Mejoramiento de la Lectura y Escritura. Quintana estuvo en la Universidad Católica del Uruguay para dictar el curso Los centros de escritura y la redacción universitaria a profesores de la Facultad de Ciencias Humanas.
