| dc.description | Rock band Clandestino’s performance in Montevideo, in May of 1988, dominated the daily and weekly newspapers’ covers of the time due to the subsequent imprisonment of its frontman. The presentation of the band and its consequences marked a break point in the history of rock in Uruguay. The political tensions that preceded the performance, the rock youngsters’ stigmatizing characterization by the press, and the discussion of conceptions about rock and punk rock as a social and cultural phenomenon allow to analyze the uncertainty about what might or might not be said publicly in the new democracy. | en-US |

La presentación del grupo y sus consecuencias marcaron un punto de quiebre en la historia del rock en Uruguay. Las tensiones políticas que precedieron a la actuación, la caracterización estigmatizante de los jóvenes roqueros por parte de la prensa, así como la discusión de las concepciones sobre el rock y el punk rock como fenómeno social y cultural permiten analizar la incertidumbre sobre lo que podía o no decirse públicamente en la nueva democracia. | es-ES |
