This work proposes an auxiliary approach to monitor the quality in the spot
welding process, which is widely used for structuring metal bodies or metal sub assemblies in the automotive industry. As a criterion of quality of this process, we will
use the characteristic marks left by welding electrodes in the junction between the
materials. The shape and size of these marks related to welding parameters of the
materials to be welded allow an estimation of the quality. The proposed solution is
based on the measurement of the spot welding by image processing using the
Raspberry PI platform and an implementation through the Python programming
language by OpenCV and SimpleCV libraries. The algorithm to monitor the welding
process will receive a command to capture the weld spot region picture and process
the data of image for analyses of welding quality.
