dc.description.abstractDue to general education advocated by the National Curriculum Guidelines, the Pediatric Intensive Care nurse develops and builds their knowledge in everyday care with their peers through observation, practice and educational activities in service. In order to study the subject and assist professional development, this research aims to propose a program of Permanent Education in Health Education and qualification of care developed by a team of nurses in a Pediatric Intensive Care Unit. Through qualitative research methodology, descriptive and exploratory stages of research with nurses working in this care unit were performed. The first step consisted in individual semi-structured interviews with eight participants, where the reports were categorized and discussed again with the latter, now in a focus group interview. In this group were reflected and pointed proposed to be used in the program design. The results were the emergence of four categories named as "the need for management and leadership; interpersonal aspects; deepening the technical knowledge and its importance for educational practice aspects. With possession of these tools and reflections it was elaborated, as the product of research, an educational program for these professionals. Divided into two "moments" - for those who will be presented with a new scenario and who is already part of it for over six months, activities to be practiced, reflections and educational proposals for each are described. The considerations presented reflect about learning to act, in daily work, where the needs of these professionals to critically ill children rush on affective issues, technical expertise, leadership and significant groups of methodologies, learning to be and learning to act. Also addresses the need for social, cultural and political education, also important for the development of professional citizen. It brings questions as supply and demand for expertise in this area and future research that can be developed as curricular changes and arrays of in-service training specific to this area.en
