Social memory is an important affective value to be considered in the preservation and rehabilitation of a building. The way they are designed or requalified influences the consumption of energy and natural resources. This research aims to evaluate the behavior of different strategies for rehabilitating an industrial building, which has historical interest, in order to present improvements in its energy performance, through computer simulation. The study case of this research, located in Caxias do Sul/RS, is the first expansion of Saccaro Móveis, which is a worldwiderecognized company in the furniture industry, for its design and high standards, through the handcrafted value of its furnishings. Thus, are defined intervention guidelines which considerer the preservation of industrial architectural heritage and the rationalization of energy use. Furthermore, are evaluated the energy performance of its envelope, lighting and air conditioning systems, individually and as a whole. In the end, it is verified the energy consumption reduction of the proposed models. For this purpose, it is used energy performance computer simulation, through EnergyPlus software, as the methodology. From this, firstly the study case is simulated with its original materiality. Then, are simulated three envelopes, and in the first one the common glass is changed to insulated, laminated and laminated insulating glass types. In the second envelope is added thermal insulation in the rooftop, and in the third one, is applied also in the walls of the envelope. Thus, is verified that the Envelope 02 presented a better energy performance than the others. Consequently, this model is simulated considering passive strategies, like natural ventilation and lighting control. This set of strategies results in an 18% reduction in annual total end uses energy consumption compared to the Base Envelope. Then, is possible to observe the importance of the relationship between climate, materiality and passive strategies to minimize the energy consumption in a building.en
