For the development of the study, which presented itself as a general objective to identify the prevalence of poor quality of sleep and the associated socioeconomic factors, in 2,171 health academics at the University of Rio Verde (UniRV), in the fields of Rio Verde, Aparecida Goiânia and Goianésia. To assess the poor sleep quality outcome, the Pittsburg Sleep Quality Index (PSQI-BR) and a standardized questionnaire were applied to collect socioeconomic and demographic information, which involved the variables: sex, age, skin color , marital status; socioeconomic characteristics: economic class, occupation; behavioral characteristics: physical activity, smoking, alcohol consumption, adequate consumption of fruits and vegetables and self-perceived health; student characteristics: course. Analyzes were performed using Poisson Regression. The prevalence of poor sleep quality was 63.5% (95% CI: 61.4-65.5). In women, the prevalence was higher in those aged 24 years or more (PR = 1.24; 95% CI = 1.07-1.43), without a partner (PR = 1.23; 95% CI = 1.07- 1.43), who consumed alcoholic beverages (PR = 1.17; 95% CI = 1.05-1.31) and who reported reasonable / poor health (PR = 1.77; 95% CI = 1.62-1, 93). In men, the prevalence was higher for students who smoked (PR = 1.24; 95% CI = 1.07-1.43) and had a reasonable / poor perception of health (PR = 1.36; 95% CI = 1, 16-1.58); and it was lower for those who adequately consumed fruits and vegetables (PR = 0.69; 95% CI = 0.54-0.88) and were sufficiently active (PR = 0.82; 95% CI = 0.71-0, 95). There was a high prevalence of the outcome in the sample. In addition, it was noted that poor sleep quality occurs differently between men and women. However, there is a prevalence of poor sleep quality in women who are studying medicine, especially those without partners, with greater alcohol consumption, smokers, sedentary and who do not adequately consume fruits and vegetables, and who reported reasonable / poor health. Thus, the importance of monitoring the poor quality of sleep in students is emphasized, based on specific realities, as sleep quality is important and new strategies must be adopted to improve the quality of Cross-Sectional Studies.sleep of academics at this university, especially women, should be adopted by the educational institution.en
