The present work is the dissertation presented as a requirement for the Master Degree in Public Health at the Post-Graduation Program in Public Health of UNISINOS. The text is structured in three parts: the first one, entitled “Paths and directions in the care of people living with a disease. long term: A Cartographic approach ”, exposes the project design that guided the research; in the second part, which comprises the research field report, the researcher narrates her fieldwork insertion and the paths covered in the territory, bringing reflections on the field; finally, the scientific article produced as research outcome constitutes the third part of the dissertation. The overall objective of the research was to map experiences related to the diversity of care that people living with diabetes trigger within and outside the network proposed by public policies. The research was designed as an intervention research, with the employment of cartographic interviews, and took place in the Public Health System in a municipality located in the Rio dos Sinos Valley, between 2018 and 2019. The four participants interviewed were selected in two FHS of the municipality, through group invitation and indication of other clients and professionals. It was conducted in-depth interviews with them and, with the content of the interviews, it was possible to construct the individual care maps that encompasses the senses, care and control paths. The research conclusion is that parallel to the physical walk through the formal and informal health facilities network searching for health, different meanings are mobilized by the people for the disease, for the treatment and for life itself, which encompass the most varied forms of self-care and still pervade the logic of control.en
