There are numerous environmental aspects with a high degree of complexity and relevance to the safety of society and the environment in a health service unit, such as hospitals. The importance of this context, the temporal evolution of legislation on waste management and management, and the obligation of health facilities focus on the presentation of a PGRSS. There is a need to study the practices adopted in the management of these wastes in these units. This research aims to evaluate the GRSS processes of the Municipal Hospital of Novo Hamburgo-RS and propose safer and environmentally effective solutions. The proposed method of waste identification involved the separation of sectors by adhesives of different colors and shapes, which were placed in black packaging (Waste Group D), white packaging (Waste Group A and B) and sharps collectors (Waste Group E). For the relation of the amount of waste generated, the existence of statistically significant differences between the sectors was evaluated. The obtained results allowed to identify the differences in the generation of the residues per shift, having been highlighted the morning shift, presenting the greater representativeness due to the medical discharges that occur in this period, and by the added fact, of the patient's bed release and subsequent cleaning local. It was also possible to identify a behavioral pattern in waste generation in relation to the months of monitoring. It was evident during the study, the lack of internal infrastructure, which contributes to the failures in segregation and mainly related to the lack of knowledge of the types of waste and the importance in seeking the correct segregation.en
