Successful treatment of pain requires careful evaluation of its nature, the assessment is a good baseline for sequential treatment interventions. The objective of this study is a literature review on the management of pain in surgical patients. This study is an integrative review, exploratory descriptive qualitative approach, about management in surgical patients. The findings indicate that the assessment of pain in general is limited, the service do not provide consolidated structure for the processes and that nursing was capable to assess pain.en
