Every organization that competes in a market wants to growth. It is through this growth that the company seeks perpetuation over time, searching to increase its profitability by being more competitive and profitable. Growth carries with it a big change for the organization, from its operational results until management practices used by the company's leaders. However, not all changes bring a positive result at first time. In some cases, the plan to grow can bring about results issues. This paper employs a case study in a metal mechanic company in the Vale do Rio dos Sinos region, seeking to ascertain how management practices can mitigate the unwanted effects of unexpected industrial growth. For this, interviews with the leaders of different hierarchical levels of the company were applied, trying to find out how the practical management affects the process of growth. It was concluded that the failure of planning process of growth and the qualification of the people of the company are two central points in this process. It was also concluded that growth is always positive in the long run, but the problems in results at first is nothing more than the “pain” related to growth.en
