The study has a porpose to compare the effect of the DASH standard diet with a regular diet on the impact of clinical improvement in patients with metabolic syndrome and a history of ischemic AVC. This is a randomized clinical trial accompanying adult and elderly subjects with a diagnosis of ischemic stroke in a period not exceeding three months, attended at the HCPA. The subjects were randomized into two groups: DASH diet or regular. Patients underwent blood pressure measurement, measurement of fasting glucose, triglycerides and HDL-cholesterol and measurement of waist circumference. They evaluated 80 individuals matched with a mean age of 61.7 ± 12 years. After six months of intervention, there was a significant reduction in waist circumference (p = 0.001), body weight (p = 0.01), BMI (p = 0.03) and total cholesterol (p = 0.03) and triglycerides (p = 0.04) in DASH group. The findings of the study did not demonstrate the benefits of the DASH diet and nutritional advice on the clinical improvement of SM, but has shown positive effects on weight loss and reduction of cardiovascular risk biomarkers. The inclusion of a higher number of participants and longer follow possibly provide favorable results to cardiometabolic effects of diet.en
